Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia

January 5, 1867

On the evening 3d last, by R.Y. Brown, J.I.C. Mr. Frederick S. Cureton and Miss Mary P. Rollins.

We have purposely waited for the first storm of grief to pass over the hearts of his relatives before paying a tribute of respect to the memory of Park E. Arnold. Several months have now elapsed since the grave claimed its victim. [Long tribute to character.] The subject of this sketch was born 24 December 1802 in Abbeville District, South Carolina, and died 4 October 1866, and was consequently nearly sixty-four years old at the time of his death. From his boyhood he displayed remarkable energy. This was the leading feature of his character. This energy never left him. By indomitable industry he overcame every obstacle that early poverty threw in his way, and long before he reach the period know as “middle-life” he had secured vast wealth…In fact he mastered any business he undertook. A heart-stricken widow and sorrowing sons and daughters are left to mourn.
